The next step on the healthy life ladder is to start eating healthy, which in my personal opinion is quite hard and requires a lot of will power.

The world is growing more and more aware about healthy food choices. But knowing isn’t just enough, we’ve got to implement them in our lives too.

It takes time and dedication to prepare healthy food thrice a day and time is something that the majority of the population lacks today due to strenuous lifestyles. Let’s just admit it, it is close to impossible to choose healthy food when leading such a busy life.

This is where meal prepping comes in.

Now again, meal prepping for an entire week might sound like a lot of work but once you get a hang of it, it becomes easier and will eventually help you out in the long run.

Why meal prep?

  • Meal prepping helps you to improve your dietary habits.
  • You save a lot of time, money and calories.
  • Helps you stay on track with your diet and achieve your body goals.
  • Its aids in overall weight loss and healthy eating.
  • It stops you from eating outside or eating junk food which contributes to changing your dietary habits.

How to meal prep?

  • Pick out one day in the week when you have time on your hands  – Sundays work best for most of us.
  • Decide on how many meals and for how many days you’ll be preparing.
  • Plan your meals – make a weekly menu and buy the groceries accordingly.
  • The key is to make the meals simple – the fancier the dishes, the more complicated and time consuming the prepping becomes.
  • Change the menu each week to avoid getting bored of the monotonous meals.

Once you’re done preparing the food, the next step is to store it. There are 2 options for that, either you refrigerate the meals or you freeze them. Then the last and final step is to microwave the meals and enjoy them.

 Meal prep mistakes :

  • A lot of food – Don’t be afraid to freeze all the leftovers
  • Too little food – you’ve got to make sure you don’t under eat so it is fine to make bigger portions since you can always freeze the leftovers.
  • Don’t enjoy the meals you make – Remember, it is important to cook food that you enjoy. Any food that you find hard to eat will just be wasted and leave you discontented.
  • Making excuses – Excuses : an obstacle that most of us have to overcome. Everyone is busy or tired but you’ve got to make it work.  Making excuses is just going to demotivate you.

Push yourselves in making that little effort each Sunday and trust me, you’ll thank yourselves when you eat those healthy, nutrient rich meals instead of the oil soaked fast food most people eat.

In the end, its important to keep reminding yourself the purpose of doing this and what your goal is. Ultimately, a resolved mind yields the best results.
