If you’re struggling to maintain your workout routines in this weather then guess what? You’re not the only one! Nothing sounds better than hot chocolate, cuddles and binge-watching Netflix in this weather. Being a basketball player myself, I find it so hard to motivate myself to get out of bed early in the morning. Everyday I question myself; do I really have to get out of the bed when everyone else is sleeping peacefully under those cozy blankets? Is playing even worth all the effort?  And then I slap myself because I know that I absolutely love basketball and I would wake up and drag my ass out of the bed even if there was a snow storm outside.

So I’m just going to share a few tips with you guys that actually help me to stay motivated in this season.

1. Prep up before hand

Make it a habit to prepare your workout kit and your pre workout meal beforehand so that when you’re fighting a battle with yourself early in the morning you’ll not want to waste the efforts you’ve put in the previous night.

2. Keep a dozen alarms

Yes, I am one of those people who can’t get up after a single alarm. It doesn’t matter what season it is, I need 10 alarms to bring me back from La-la-land. If you have a roommate, you should probably apologise before hand because they are NOT going to be pleased.

3. Keep your mobile at a distance

This may or may not always help but might as well give it a try. Keeping your mobile away from your  bed not only prevents you from using it endlessly at night but also forces you to get out of bed and switch off the alarm early in the morning. There are chances that this would be enough to wake you up and not go back to bed.

4. Debate it out

Now this one really helps me the most. When I’m half awake because of my endless alarms, I list out all the pros and cons in my brain so as to why I should get up. I list out the things that I would miss out on if I ended up sleeping in, For example : ‘I might miss on some new moves’ or ‘I’d feel guilty if I didn’t workout and ended up eating too much’ or ‘The others would improve at a faster rate than I will if I continuously skip practices’ or ‘I’d feel sluggish and inactive the entire day if I don’t workout’.

Honestly, these reasons help me get out of bed instantly.

5.Find a buddy

Another super effective method is to find yourself a workout buddy who has similar goals like you do. You can constantly remind each other or serve as alarm clocks to wake each other up. This will help both of you to keep pushing each other and the competitiveness will help you go beyond your limits.

6. Join a group workout class

Group workouts are undoubtedly way more fun and motivating than individual sessions. Working out with others will change your mind about exercising being a chore and will make everything more sociable and enjoyable.

7. Workout at home-

You don’t necessarily need to leave the comfort of your warm home to burn calories. If you have enough will power, you can just have your very own workout session at home. All you need is a clear space and some very loud and cheerful music.

Ultimately you need to keep reminding yourself about your goals and keep pushing yourself. In the end, if you can’t motivate yourself then no one or nothing can make you do anything. Keeping that in mind, it is also very important that you are not too harsh on yourself, the key to do anything is to just love yourself and set your own pace depending upon your abilities.
